Music when you're mad
I haven’t read this yet, but the accompanying photo promises it’ll be good.
Guitarist Rowland S. Howard, an emaciated figure that suggests an ongoing estrangement from three square meals a day, stares at the violent scenes from eyes set in darkened sockets with a sneering sense of disdain, as if the pair being torn by the audience (Cave and bassist Tracy Pew) deserve everything they’re getting.
I reviewed a Grinderman remix album
Not my best review…I do really like a lot of these remixes, though.

I used to love music videos so much this should really be a top 10; I see your sis just asked the same question, so I’ll 1-5 now and 6-10 when I answer her message:) warning in advance, though: I don’t watch many vids anymore so these lists will be very dated.
1) Radiohead: There There (it’s got hedgehogs drinking from steins, and Thom Yorke is watching them. What else is there to ask for?)
2) Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds: Fifteen Feet of Pure White Snow (for Nick Cave’s white shoes, Jarvis’ cat-grooming dance, and Warren Ellis without a beard).
3) Echo and the Bunnymen: Seven Seas (when Ian McCulloch comes out dressed as a French girl and does the Bowie lipstick wipe thing, prepare not to die from sass overload).
4) Madness: Our House (a classic for good reason).
5) Pulp: This is Hardcore (just a great concept and a beautifully filmed video. PS, I went to college once, but all they found were rats in my head).

The Birthday Party, “Junkyard” (live)
I like to check and make sure this video is still on YouTube every few months because it’s one of my absolute favorites (and perhaps the most drug-addled clip you’ll ever see).
It’s also, from about 4:30 on, Tracy Pew’s private sex show.
(Best user comment: “how’d he die… grinding too hard?”)
This video is worth about a million remarks, all extraordinary. I think my favorite has been my friend Greg saying, “they look like they’re each from a different band, all terrifying.” This is probably the best Birthday Party clip on Youtube, although I still have a soft spot for the one where Nick Cave says “you win, you get the stick” to someone in the audience at the end (I think it’s a “Release the Bats” performance? I dunno, look it up!)
“Julie Howell, of Long Elms, was recognised as ‘Alumnus of the Year 2012’, by the Brighton Graduate Association (BGA) of the University of Brighton at a special ceremony on Thursday last week…But for Ms Howell, the awards ceremony, held at Brighton Dome, was particularly special as her idol, singer Nick Cave was present.”
